How long have you been in the roofing industry, and how did you get your start?
DS: I started in 2002 as a laborer and started my first roofing company in 2008. I sold my interest in 2014 and partnered with the team at American Home Contractors in 2015.
What are a few reasons why your company is successful?
DS: We are forward thinking and use technology to our advantage. We hire the best talent, use the best products and deliver the best possible service.
What are the big challenges in your particular market, and how is the company addressing them?
DS: The Washington, D.C. metro area is very competitive. We need to take care of our people to make sure we have the best talent and use the best technology and products to compete.
Do you see your age as an advantage or disadvantage in this business? Why or why not?
DS: My age is an advantage because I understand how things were done in the past but embrace the future. Being born in 1984 is an advantage because I grew up during the transition from analog to digital.
What area of roofing are you most passionate about?
DS: I am most passionate about marketing, technology, and HR because they lead the way.
What did you get from attending the Young Guns meeting at Best of Success?
DS: I realized how different our company operates and is ahead of the curve.
What’s next?
DS: Continuing to push on solar roofing products and using technology to disrupt the roofing industry.
